My Family
I am very proud of my dad for all that he accomplished while he was on the County Board. I don't think mom, like Will Rogers ever met a stranger. She loved everyone and looked for the good in all.
I can't thank Donnie and Sharon enough for all that they did to help my parents during my parents final months alive. Although I went to Paris as often as I could, they had to deal with all the health issues on a daily basis. Thanks, Donnie and Sharon.
Interests: Long before they ever moved to Indianapolis, I was an avid Colts fan, actually, I was a Johnny U fan. I'm also a Green Bay Packers fan and a die hard Cubs fan "wait until next year". When it comes to basketball, I prefer college ball over pro ball and follow the "Fighting Illini", remember I'm from Illinois (sorry IU and Purdue fans). I halfheartedly follow the Pacers when it comes to pro ball. Personally, as a child I was active in organized sports and played Little League Baseball and once pitched a perfect game, no hits, no walks, no runs. In high school I played basketball and football. In fact I made the varsity football team when I was just a sophomore. I enjoy working in the yard, walking, exercising, playing euchre when I can find a partner, dancing to the oldies but goodies, reading, and going out to a fine restaurant. In the spring I enjoy getting out in the woods and going mushroom hunting. In the fall it's squirrel hunting when I can get to my brothers cabin in the woods. I enjoy traveling and have been to Mexico, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, Hawaii, and Canada. I've been on two Caribbean cruises and an Alaskan Cruise. The glaciers are absolutely incredible and American Bald Eagles are everywhere. I've seen an awesome view of Seattle while dining at the top of the Space Needle, was quite solemn at the Alamo, and mesmerized by the size of the Golden Gate Bridge. I've gone deep sea fishing and clam digging along the coast of California and partied at the Mardi Gras. Although we are spread out all over the U.S., my family is very important to me and we do keep in contact weekly. How I became interested in Massage Therapy. I first became interested in massage while I was still in high school. As you can imagine, my parents worked very hard in order to provide for us kids. Although I had no idea what I was doing, occasionally on Sundays I would massage their achy muscles. I did notice that if I did one thing to a muscle it would respond one way and if I did something else it would respond in a different manner, this really intrigued me. More importantly, mom felt like I had a special gift in being able to instinctively know what to do to help. Thus, after graduating from high school I took a 500 hour course from the Dr. Esther C Swanson School of Swedish Massage in Chicago A small town is not a very good place to try build a massage practice, especially in the late 60's. For one thing no one would believe an 18 year old kid on the value and benefits of massage. If you’re old enough, stop and think back to when you were 18 and considered to still be "wet behind the ears". Work History Three days after I turned 18, I registered for the draft and got married (one of those have to situations). Here I was a graduate masseur in a small town with a wife and a son on the way. Thus, I did what anyone would of done..... I got a job. I worked in a couple of different factories in Paris until 1972. At each of these factories I would work my up to be either a foreman or at the very least a group leader. As an infant, Kevin seemed to continually have problems with his ears. One of his doctors recommended a warmer climate and in 1972, my wife, son and I moved to North Hollywood, California. Talk about a lifestyle adjustment. I went to work for Household Finance Corporation as manager trainee and became a branch manager in 1974. After being promoted to different offices I eventually left HFC to manage a Morris Plan in Oxnard, Ca.
I went to work at Avco Finance as a manager in Terre Haute, IN. In 1980 I married my second wife, another home town girl. At the time she was living in Indy so I drove back and forth from Indy to Terre Haute until Avco transferred me to an Indianapolis branch. We divorced in 1996 I soon discovered that Avco was not the place for me and left. Over the next several years I was in sales and eventually ended up with American Income Life Insurance company as an insurance agent. It was as an insurance agent that I learned about how nice a residual income is. From 1968 to 1989 I did keep my hands on people by occasionally working on my family and friends. In 1989’ I started attending refresher workshops. I remember my first Touch for Health workshop, I thought "NO WAY" can that stuff work. Now, I love what muscle testing (kinesiology) and balancing can tell me not only about a persons body but about the person as well. After taking several workshops I started offering massage out of my home, a beauty shop in Bargersville, IN and a exercise place on the south side of Indy. Plus, I was still selling life insurance. In January of 1991, I decided to live my lifelong dream, I quit AIL, rented office space at the Brookwood Professional Center on East St., and started working my behind off to build a massage practice. If it had not been for the residual income I was receiving from AIL, I'm not certain my business would have survived. You see, in my first month of being in business, I only worked on nine people the entire month. Each month afterwards my business would grow, primarily due to the referrals I received from satisfied clients. By the way, I'm still receiving a small residual income check and it's been almost 20 years since I sold insurance. Residual income is great! A huge break came in June of 1991. A new client was referred to me and was brought in to see me by her daughter. Ann had fallen and broken both elbows and could not raise her arms above her head to comb her own hair without extreme pain. As is so often the case, her doctors told her to learn to live with the pain. After just six one half hour sessions (twice weekly) she was able to raise her arms pain free. You know how when you go to do something instinctively, it is then that you realize you can't due to pain? Well, I had stepped out of the massage room to my office area when I suddenly heard...."Oh my God mom, you're combing your own hair." Ann instinctively combed her hair and did not realize it herself that she was doing so until her daughter said so. They called me back into the massage room and we all started crying. Shortly, after Ann and Kathy left the phone started ringing off the hook. Apparently, a lot of people had told Ann that if I helped her they would be coming to see me as well. Ann referred tons of clients, one of which I'll never forget as long as I live.
Hazel also came twice a week at first, but just for foot reflexology, after nine weeks her ribs no longer over lapped her hips and she was able to get on the massage table. Over the course of the next several months she went from 12-15 pain pills daily down to 5 or 6 daily. Over the next 11 years Hazel gradually straightened up and was able to live a more productive life. I could go on and on about this wonderful lady as we grew to become good friends until she passed away a few years ago. She too will hold a very special place in my heart for as long as I live. In 1993 I moved my office from Brookwood Professional Center to an office on Madison Ave which provided enough space to hire other therapists. At one time I had 3 other therapists working with me, but discovered four personalities and four different styles of bodywork in one location was a big headache, primarily because I was doing all the scheduling. This was in part my fault because I didn't require any floor time for the other therapist. (They only had to be there when they had appointments.) Over the next few years when a therapist would leave I never bothered to try and replace them and in 1999 I was on my own again. Hooray! But, because I was again the sole therapist, and was booked out weeks in advance, and had no time to call my own, I decided to try to find a good therapist to work with. Finally, in 2001 just before 9/11/01 I found Abby Hamilton. Although she is 30 years younger than me, we had a great working relationship. She got used to my humor and vice versa. Abby was like a daughter to me and I miss her very much, she went to work for the Indiana Chamber of Commerce You see, the average career expectancy for a massage therapist is seven years. Abby's last day was 7/31/08, just two days before my mom passed. Then 9 weeks later my dad passed away. Those 9 weeks were extremely emotionally packed. Over the years, I have taken many workshops on a variety of bodywork modalities in order to help clients with their physical and emotional needs. I’ve also read all kinds of books and periodicals on different forms of bodywork, viewed videos, exchanged information about techniques with other therapists and I’ve taught a few workshops. Last but certainly not least is the 100’s of hours of hands on knowledge gained from working on an average of 30 clients a week since 93’. I cannot thank my clients enough for placing their trust and confidence in me to practice what I have learned as well as the freedom they have given me to experiment with different techniques I have developed.
Colon Hydrotherapy added in 1998 A client, started receiving colon hydrotherapy in 1997 at another location here in Indy and urged me to do so. After her urging me for over a year, I finally decided to try it. The reason it took me a year to decide to try colonics is quite simply...."I did not want anyone sticking something up my behind". At any rate, I scheduled my first two sessions and was a nervous wreck all the way to the appointment. Like most people, I soon realized all my fears and concerns were a useless waste of energy. To make a long story short, I decided I needed to add colonics to my practice and went for training at the Doo Drop Inn (don't laugh) in Michigan. I began offering colonics in the fall of 1998 and have seen marvelous results with this modality. What a joy it is to see peoples lives be completely turned around by cleansing. I have attended several International Association of Colon Therapists National Conventions and was a guest speaker at the 2000 Convention. Energy Medicine Since 1998, I have also attended and completed several BodyTalk Modules. BodyTalk is a form of energy work that incorporates the use of muscle testing like Touch for Health does. BodyTalk is yet another way to tap into the innate wisdom of the body, find out what organs, glands, structures etc. are not working together and then link them together so they are working together. You really have to experience this modality to truly appreciate how powerful it can be. Yet another form of energy medicine is NES Health. The accuracy of the scans never cease to amaze me or clients. Just as important as the scan, are the Infoceuticals amazing ability to correct the distortions in the Human Body Field, which in turn sends the correct information to the physical body for corrections. What Is The Perfect Business? I've been an employee at different factories, finance companies and an insurance company. I've been a very small business owner (3 therapists) , and once again I'm a sole proprietor. Which is best? I invite you to watch the video below by Robert Kyosaki, author of Rich Dad Poor Dad and decide for your self which type of business is best for you.
As a solo act, I have experienced exactly what Mr. Kyosaki talked about when I had to have surgery a few years ago. Something he didn't mention is taking time off for a vacation or to just get away. When I do so, or for that matter, when anyone that is self employed does, we have to factor in the loss of revenue as part of the cost of the vacation or time off. If anything that Mr. Kyosaki said in the video hit home, and you're considering the direct selling industry, here are some 5 key things you need to look for in any company.
There is a lot of money that can be made in the direct selling industry, but it does require work and effort on your part. If you have any questions about the direct selling industry, please do not hesitate to call me at 317-865-0889. My Mission Statement To assist you in reaching your goals so that you may have a life filled with good heath, wealth and happiness. Thank you for taking the time to learn about my family, myself,
my life. Namaste, Harry Farris
