Do You Get Heartburn?

According to the National Heartburn Alliance, 25 million Americans experience heartburn on a daily basis. 50% of these people believe it is impossible to live heartburn free, and 90% say it negatively effects their daily life.

Heartburn, also referred to as acid indigestion, is an inflammation or irritation of the esophagus caused by acid regurgitation
from the stomach.

Heartburn, along with acid indigestion, hiatal hernia and reflux esophagitis is considered by the medical community as
Gastoresophageal Reflux Disorder (GERD).

The medical profession claims that heartburn and GERD are caused by excess stomach acid. Virtually all drugs used to
treat GERD are designed to suppress stomach acid.

Yet, here is what is printed in the11th edition of the Merck Manual, published in 1966. "Heartburn is not due, as formerly believed,
to excessive gastric acidity per se, as the symptom often occurs in absence of stomach acid."

Thus, in reality the truth, as shocking as it may be, is that heartburn and GERD are more often caused by the lack of
HCI (hydrocloric acid), than by too much of it.

In addition to helping us digest our food, HCI is an essential antibiotic. Imagine if you would, having no stomach acid
production and eating a salad. How would your body neutralize the bacteria present on all raw vegetables. Thus, we now
have the scenario of being unable to sterilize food before it enters the intestinal tract. Resulting in uncontrolled growth of
every kind of microbe in the stomach. This uncontrolled growth can result in yeast and Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori), the
bacteria associated with gastric ulcers.

We are being brainwashed by the drug companies via mass advertising to believe they have the solution for GERD.
When in fact they are contributing to many other diseases and/or producing side affects by suppressing the gastric acid our
bodies produce.

The biggest offenders are those drugs that are proton pump inhibitors because they have the ability to reduce stomach acid
production by 90% to 95% for the better part of the day.  PPI's on the market today include Prilosec, Prevacid, AcipHex,
Nexium and Protonix.

Now I understand they are either going to or already have started adding antibiotics to some of these PPI's. Isn't that great.
Now not only are they destroying the essential gastric acids our bodies need but in addition destroy our good bacteria to
wreak even more havoc on our bodies. Go figure.

These are only suggestions or ideas that may help eliminate heartburn and many other GERD problems.
I encourage you to try them and get off the drugs that can cause so many other problems.

I found this article on the WTHR Channel 13 website in Indianapolis and wanted to share it with my readers.
I still believe you need a good probiotic in addition to eating yogurt. Why? The ingredients listed on a container of
yogurt do not provide you with the different strains of good bacteria that are in it nor the amount. I have used
cherries and recommended them to clients for arthritis. I've also recommended almonds but was unaware that walnuts
provided some of the same benefits. If you decide to try any of these, I'd recommend they be organic for even greater benefits.
At any rate, here's some food for thought and your health!

Nine Super Foods That Could Keep You Away From The Doctor

May 31, 2006 10:54 AM EST

Can certain foods really fight-off deadly disease, and could enough trips to the grocery store, keep you away from
the doctor?

Diet and metabolic expert, Doctor Ken Fujioka, examines the nine superfoods shopping list.

"Yogurt's an interesting food because it's alive," said Fujioka.

Yogurt is so good for you that researchers say if you eat enough of it, you'll ward off pneumonia.

"So if you have live lactobacilli they're actually area a good friendly bacteria-they coat your own intestines and help
you out with other foreign infections," said Fujioka.

The produce aisle contains foods that fight prostate, breast cancer, arthritis and alzheimers disease.

A study published this year found blueberries can actually reduce the effects of a stroke and may even reduce
symptoms of Alzheimer's disease.

Scientists say cherries contain a protein found to lower arthritis pain, and tomatoes can shrink prostate tumors
and improve vision.

"Tomatoes are very high in anti-oxidants, they have a very peculiar one-lucopenes. Lucopenes are very good at
helping maybe prostate maybe even helping your eyes," said Dr. Fujioka.

The American Association for Cancer Research found that women who ate four servings of cabbage or sauerkraut
a week were 74% less likely to get breast cancer.

According to researchers at the University of Minnesota eating three servings of whole grain a day can reduce your risk
of heart attack and stroke by 35% and actually lower your risk of getting type two diabetes by 27%.

"The problem is you can get a lot of calories with whole grains so people have to be careful," said Fujioka.

Researchers say eating enough beans can lower your blood pressure, cholesterol, and cut your risk of
having heart attack.

Walnuts were found to be great for lowering cholesterol and and increasing blood flow to your heart.

"Walnuts and almonds all have the same effect, they actually help your cholesterol," said Dr. Fujioka.

Fish is known to help your heart, and now researchers have found salmon improves bone density, making
it good protection against falls and treating osteoporosis."

"It's true that just eating fish, particularly small fish are good, but whether it helps in the end, this
is very new stuff," said Fujioka.

The right food could be the best medicine after all.

Dr. Fujioka warns that fighting foods are not meant to replace medical treatment, but he says eating a
well-balanced diet is the key to good health.
