Water....Water....Water!

The following is from an interesting email:

75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. (This likely applies to half the world's population.)

In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger.

Even MILD dehydration will slow one's metabolism as much as 3%.

One glass of water shut down midnight hunger pains for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

Lack of water is the #1 trigger for daytime fatigue

Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

HAVE YOU HAD YOUR WATER TODAY?

Free-Radicals

Have you ever wondered why an apple turns brown after it's been sliced and exposed to open air or what causes an oil to go rancid? The culprit is oxygen, but it is oxygen in the form of a free radical--when one of the electrons in the molecule is lost. This turns oxygen into a frenzied chemical that cannot rest until it gets an electron back.

"This is a very hazardous, unnatural and unstable state, because electrons normally come in pairs. This odd, unpaired electron in a free radical causes it to collide with other molecules and causes them to also become free radicals. This can create a self-perpetuating chain reaction in which the structure of millions of molecules are altered in a matter of nanoseconds reeking havoc with our DNA, protein molecules, enzymes and cells." Researcher and writer Michael Dye

According to Dr. Carroll E. Cross (University of California, Davis School of Medicine, Davis, California), free radicals are "capable of reversibly or irreversibly damaging compounds of all biochemical classes, including nucleic acid, protein and free amino acids, lipids, and lipoproteins, carbohydrates, and connective tissue macromolecules. These species may also have an impact on such cell activities as membrane function, metabolism, and gene expression."

A free radical is an atom or molecule with an unpaired electron and unpaired electrons make for very unstable, highly reactive atoms and/or molecules. Actually free radicals are made in the body via normal metabolism. In fact, Dr. Bruce Ames of the University of California at Berkeley estimates that the DNA of each of our cells is attacked by free radicals over 10,000 times per day. But the kind that can make us sick come from pesticides, alcohol, air pollution, tobacco smoke, the food we eat, drugs and medicine and even the water we drink. In other words things that most of us are exposed to every day of our life.

So, what does heart disease, colon cancer, breast cancer and stroke have in common? New research shows that all these diseases can be linked to free radicals.

The following is but a few of the diseases and disorders in which free radicals have been implicated:

Age Spots - Aging - Allergies - Alzheimer's Disease - Angina - Arthritis - Asthma  - Attention Deficit Disorder - Bleeding Gums - Internal Bleeding - Bruises - Cancer - Cataracts - Circulation Problems - Cirrhosis - Cold Feet - Cold Fingers - Diabetes Type ll - Dry Skin - Edema - Fatigue - Hay Fever - Heart Attacks - Hemorrhoids - Hypertension - Inflamed Tissues - Jet Lag - Kidney Damage - Liver Damage - Male Sexual Inadequacy - Memory Loss - Menstrual Disorders - Migraine Headaches - Multiple Sclerosis - Night Blindness - Parkinson's Disease - Phlebitis - Poor Circulation - Prostate Problems - Psoriasis - Respiratory Problems - Retinopathy - Rheumatism - Senility - Skin Cancers - Skin Problems - Strokes - Stress Damage - Swollen Joints and Limbs - Varicose Veins - Wrinkling of the Skin

Antioxidants to the Rescue

What can you do to help your body neutralize free radicals? To begin with Vitamin E, C, Beta-Carotene and Selenium, in addition to their other nutritional benefits, have strong antioxidant properties. Antioxidants work primarily by donating or sacrificing an electron to the free-radical, which then becomes paired with the formerly unpaired electron, thereby stabilizing the free-radical. In other words antioxidants protect the body by blunting the damaging effects a free radicals produces during normal metabolism and cell function that can lead to premature aging.

Superfood: Chinese Wolfberries

Considered a national treasure, Ningxia wolfberries grow in a remote area of China near Inner Mongolia. Dr. Songquio Zhao, senior researcher at the Chinese Science Academy, explains China's top physicians have been studying and documenting the amazing health benefits of the Ningxia wolfberries for years. Dr. Zhao revealed that the potent, delicious-tasting red berries possess a rare natural ability to promote vital health and longevity. Many of the villagers in the West Elbow Plateau region where the Ningxia wolfberries flourish live remarkably healthy lives for 100+ years.

A Chinese Medica dating back 2000 years mentions the stem, leaf, and fruit of the wolfberry. (1) Another ancient medical work records wolfberry benefits ranging from replenishing vital essences to strengthening and restoring major organs. (2)

Comprehensive Western scientific analyses recently confirmed The Beijing Nutritional Research Institute's detailed chemical analyses and nutritional composition studies of the Ningxia wolfberry's amazing nutrient profile. They found that wolfberries contain 18 amino acids, 21 trace minerals, 29 fatty acids, vitamins B1, B2, B6, vitamin E, and more beta carotene than carrots, in addition to its powerful antioxidant properties. More recent scientific studies by the Chinese government have shown that wolfberries are extremely useful for supporting the immune system, liver, blood and vision. (3,4,5,6)

The Elixir of Life

Dramatic new research shows that Ningxia wolfberries may have the highest antioxidant capacity of all known fruits and vegetables. Berry Young Juice (TM), a potent blend of Ningxia wolfberries from China and five other disease fighting fruits, has been tested in a breakthrough laboratory analysis that found it to be the body's best friend for optimal health and vitality.

A new laboratory test known as ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity), developed by USDA researchers at Tufts University, rates Berry Young Juice as the number one antioxidant product on the market today. Developed by Dr. Guohua Cao at USDA Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts University, the ORAC test is one of the most sensitive and reliable methods for measuring the ability of antioxidants to absorb free radicals. It is the only test to combine both time and degree of inhibition of free radicals.

Comparative analyses against Tahitian NONI (TM) and other fruits showed Berry Young Juice's supreme advantage over all antioxidant nutritionals. Ningxia wolfberry (Lycium barbarum v. Ningxia) was shown to have the single highest antioxidant ability of any food tested.
